15 Must-see, Innovative Computer Keyboards!

This is absolutely amazing. A touch screen mirror with integrated wi-fi is something that should have been invented years ago! A definite must have when it is available; think about all the information we’ll be able to absorb when going through the morning grooming ritual!

Flexible Paper Phone -  an interesting concept, perhaps, but would people get frustrated learning the gestures?

Such a great example of minimalist style: beach wood flooring, clean, straight lines, light flooding in through the windows and bright white walls. Do you think this is attractive, or perhaps a little cold? Let us know what styles you like!

Three Dimensional Transistors lead to Revolutionary Production Level Processors

burninget:

Intel has come up with a producable processor that is much smaller, power efficient, and more powerful than traditional processors.

Despite promises, Intel has failed to deliver a low-power chip suited to miniature gadgets like phones and tablet computers, with their relatively tiny batteries. Partner electronics makers and investors are getting restless.

The development Intel showed Wednesday was a decade in the making, said Mark Bohr, an Intel senior fellow.

It employs a three-dimensional structure to pack more processing channels into each transistor, the microscopic unit that amplifies electronic signals and is a building block of all electronic devices.

Traditionally, transistor channels have been situated flat on a surface. Intel engineers took these channels, which serve as the neurons for a computer’s brain, and realigned them to fit into smaller spaces.

Intel called the design “a fundamental departure” from the two-dimensional transistor structure that has powered electronics within computers, cars, household appliances and other devices for decades.

Intel said the 3-D transistors are so small that more than 100 million could fit on the head of a pin. The original transistor, built by Bell Labs in 1947, was large enough to be pieced together by hand.

“Transistors have entered the third dimension,” Bohr said onstage.

He said the new design will help the company push the limits of Moore’s Law, Intel co-founder Gordon Moore’s theory that the number of transistors able to fit on a microchip doubles every two years or so.”

I’m excited to see where this is going.

This stunning fireplace is called ‘Roll’ and has been designed by Encompass. Due to its technically advanced design, the way in which it can move on bearings and be placed in any room (interior or exterior), throughout the house makes this a really exquisite, contemporary piece for the home. The glass firescreens on both sides of Roll’s face are magnetic so are easily manoeuvrable, and there is also an option to mount the beautiful piece to the wall, too! What are your thoughts on this product? Where would you place this in your home?

Wi-Fi Coming to London Underground by 2012

Nearly half of the London Underground’s 270 stations are being outfitted with Wi-Fi access ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.

London Underground commuters got their first taste of subterranean Internet access in October 2010, when a six-month test funded by U.K. broadband service BT brought Wi-Fi hotspots to the Northern and Bakerloo line platforms, as well as the ticket hall at the central London station.

The test has since been deemed “successful,” and now the London Underground is inviting telecom companies to bid for a contract that would bring Wi-Fi to 120 of London’s stations by June 2012. The winner of the contract will be announced by the end of 2011.

Users of the service will only be able to connect to Wi-Fi on the platforms, and not on the trains themselves. For the past six months, access has only been free for subscribers of BT’s broadband service with unlimited Fon Wi-Fi minutes, and for BT Openzone customers. Tesco Mobile, 02, Vodafone and Orange subscribers have also been able to access the service via bundled mobile packages.

In May 2010, London mayor Boris Johnson promised that “every lamp post [and] every bus stop will one day very soon, and before the 2012 Olympics, be Wi-Fi enabled” as part of an effort by to position London as a world leader in technological innovation.

Meanwhile, Transit Wireless LLC is working with New York City Transit to bring Wi-Fi to New York City’s subway system. Singapore, Berlin and Tokyo already offer Wi-Fi access in their respective underground metros.

Technology has been shaken to a halt

It has been reported by Engadget that Sony, Canon, and Panasonic are among the major consumer electronics manufacturers affected by the devastating destruction in Japan. Along with Mitsubishi and other firms, they have pledged millions of dollars in cash, equipment, and services to help the country and its residents get back on track.

In the meantime, tech consumers are certain to see the squeeze on their wallets. Prices for 32-gigabit NAND flash memory rose 18 percent after Toshiba suspended operations at a chip plant in the Iwate Prefecture. The country manufacturers roughly 40% of the world’s NAND flash. Prices of CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and optical films are also expected to rise as Sony was forced to shut down eight of its manufacturing plants.

Panasonic, Fujifilm, Nikon, and Canon have also temporarily closed facilities. Canon’s factories that produce interchangeable lenses and inkjet cartridges for printers could be offline for weeks if Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) is unable to stabilize power supplies. Delivery of necessary raw materials depends on the country’s massive transportation grid, which has been compromised by a 27% loss of electricity supply. More than an inconvenience to consumers, these are losses that will ripple unhappily through the Japanese populace.

The real “Iron Woman” home

Ever get sick of the numerous remote controls lying around the house, all operating different devices but for the life of you, you can’t remember which remote works for which device?! And then each remote control looks different, even if they are produced by the same manufacturer! Well, a great way to defeat this frustrating problem is with the AMX 4.3” Modero wall/flush mount touch panel!

With this beautiful device, you can now operate lighting, several TVs, radios, media servers and much, much more! It’s got a great design face, it’s slick and it’s easy to use. Not only this, but if you are sitting down or are elsewhere in the house, the technology can also be downloaded in the form of an iPad app.
